Enchanted Forest

We are a few days into the kids winter break so I'm trying to get things done while keeping the kids somewhat entertained. Yesterday we went to visit my cousin Hannah and meet her new baby W! It was fun! Sure, we had some chaotic moments where the babies don't cooperate but it was all great! I was just happy to see them and catch up on stuff.

The highlight of the day was our visit to the Enchanted Forest of Lights at Descanso Gardens. I believe this is the first year but it really is a super experience for everyone. My video will show the cool things we saw and experienced.

Hope you enjoyed my video and got a glimpse of what our enchanted evening was like.

Artsy or Crafty

I had a break in knitting because I've been neglecting painting etc. It's nice to shift and focus on something else creative.

I'm a huge fan of Youtube because I can find tutorials, techniques and DIY ideas. I searched beginning painting and numerous  videos popped up. It's like having your own personal online school.

Watching these videos sparked my painting urges...I learned about adding texture with tissue paper to my painting so that was a fun learning curve. Some videos are short (15 minutes) or long ( 1 hour +). It's just a great learning tool.

So back to painting...

Crafty day. Watercolor sunset/palm trees card.

I dabble in watercolors too but I find it a bit harder since I'm impatient with blending colors and my technique can be much better. This greeting card was lots of fun. I paint on some card stock that is meant for photos so that is most likely my problem but I work with what I have.

This next painting is using the tissue paper technique. I found a canvas board that was pretty ugly so I covered it up with this.

Textured acrylic painting using tissue paper. Lots of fun but need some patience for drying in between.

I will put up another post with the Youtube link....this was a really fun experience for me. I love that everyone can do this and put their individual touches on it. As we try to teach the kids in Adventure in Art that there is no wrong. It is your art and it's unique and wonderful. This may be hard for lots of people to accept but it should be fun. This is recreation for me. If my friends/family like it, then I have a gift for them.

Friday

It's Friday and Game 6 of the Western Conference finals. Here's to the Kings winning (please, oh please) and moving on to the Finals.

Video flashback of all sorts with the re-vamp of A-Ha's Take on Me by Reel Big Fish plus that it was used in Samba di Amigo way back in the day on Dreamcast. I freaking loved that game and spent way too much time playing a game of a monkey shaking his maracas to all sorts of songs.

I might have dig that game out and see if it still works.  I bet Tyler and Joshua will beat all my high scores in no time.

I'm heading out to tonight's game with Laura so look for us on TV. I have all day to get my anxiety levels to a record high then let the hockey playing commence.

We can Dance

Love this mashup...lots of movie clips to try and identify. The original music video is pretty cheesy but I think the song has held up really well. That's my inner 80's new waver speaking...

Big Me

Boy this week flew by! We are getting ready for Christmas so the knitting has taken a quick break for now although I am still working on my Moody socks.

We've been invited to several Christmas parties and looking forward to it. Hector scored an invite to the department party after several people asked if he could cover for them a certain Saturday night. He's worked hard enough all year to take that day off party or not. :)

I procrastinated on our annual calendar so I'm scrambling on that to have it done in time. Not as many photos to choose from so that will be a goal for next year. :)

Have a great weekend!

Friday video

Today is Sunday but a Weezer song came on that is one on those you have to dance wherever you are...I was in the car coming back from the grocery store. It's a cheery song so I wanted to remember to post it for Friday. :)

Here is the version with the lyrics because I'm super bad with lyrics and make up own regularly.

And the official Weezer video...

Wednesday

Because I have nothing new to share, I will pass along this funny series of videos although I will just post the first one. Pokemon have been around forever (it seems), My nephew was totally into the trading cards when he was Josh's age and now he's around 23 now. My kids and hubby have multiple versions of the game and even though they keep adding more Pokemon to catch, the basic premise is the same in every game.

Sooo,    LET'S BATTLE!!!

lonely boy

I'm not on top of the latest bands/music and it takes me a while to connect the song to the band but today I heard this on the radio when the band was interviewed. The lightbulb went on and so I'm passing it along because the song/video is pretty awesome. I feel like dancing with it. :) Now I want to check their other songs....

Have a great weekend!!

horsey dance

I know this video has been out for a while but since some local people in El Monte got in trouble for filming their own parody of this video so I have to post it. The music is catchy and I have no clue to what he is saying except, sexy lady and gangnam style. The dancing it pretty funny too. And the skinny guy in the yellow suit reminds me of Vector from Despicable Me.

Another Friday, already? I'm ready! We are still having a heat wave which is tiresome but what can you do? I can barricade myself in our bedroom with our room A/C while the kids can go about their normal activities  & not have the heat bother them...

That also means another Friday video from Depeche Mode! Very early DM when they were teenagers and just beginning. Fun to grow up with the band that speaks to you. :)

Have an outing at Jet Propulsion Labratory that I had to plan several weeks in advance (June) and here we are. Of course, I should be spending the day getting the house ready for Tyler's birthday but no, we will be on our field trip in the hot San Gabriel valley. I expect lots of efficient A/C there.

Have a good holiday weekend....

We are Young

I don't keep up with the latest music as much as I did when I was younger, but I hear this song a lot on the radio. Even Tyler recognizes it when we hear it in the car. :)
Yes , I like it and it must have some qualities to it if Glee does a version of it. Oy.

Tidbit

Today, I learned something new on Ravelry. No, it wasn't knitting related. I happened to be in the Puck This group and read about a woman loving hockey but playing ringette. I never heard of ringette so I had to go to trusty Google and find more about it.

Very interesting and well, this video explains everything you want to know.

Now you probably learned something new too! :)
