We're back! We'll see how the jet lag comes into play but so far so good. Our flight to Phuket was uneventful but very long. The first day was spent adjusting to the time and catching up on sleep. We had a sea view room with the boys' room adjoining ours and Loop's room about 5 doors down. The view was really good as we could see most of Karon beach. There were red flags at the beach meaning no swimming. The monsoon season makes it very dangerous to swim because of riptides so we never went into the ocean. The boys were happy to swim everyday in the pool which had a wading pool, water slide and waterfall.
It is the low (rainy) season in Thailand which wasn't too bad. The first few days were rain-free and when it did rain finally, it didn't disturb our day. The humidity was hard to deal with but A/C in our room helped a lot. The Hilton Arcadia was very nice with an awesome breakfast buffet. Lots of choices and exotic fruits. We saw a mix of Aussies, Japanese and Chinese people. The resort is very large and when any vehicle comes to the gate, the guard comes out with a mirror on a pole to check under the vehicle for bombs (?). Then you come to the welcome lobby where you get on a tram that drives you further into the resort to the main lobby. There are about 4 pools that you can choose from and the beach is across the street. Lots of little shops and restaurants are along this street. We ate Thai food almost every day for about $25 that fed 5 of us. It was great.
